RADIO INTERVIEW: UPDATE!
Writer/Director, Robert Alaniz will be a GUEST on the Flyover Zone - WQNA 88.3 FM in Springfield, IL with host Hugh Moore and co-hosts Sam Davis & Lana Wildman on SATURDAY morning, JANUARY 17th. Alaniz will be talking about his latest film "Mind Over Mindy" along with cast members, Jim O'Heir (Parks and Recreation), Steve Parks and Catherine McCafferty (who plays the title role of "Mindy"). NEW TIME! 10:30 to 11:30 am. Mark your calendar and listen in via their web site at:http://www.flyoverzone.com.
EDITNG: One of my biggest passions is editing, because that's where the film is REALLY made. There have been many obstacles as I work on what will be the Director's Cut of the film. I can clearly say that no one would have been able to cut this film without my input as writer and director due to the MANY changes to the script and storytelling process that was compromised during filming. I am happy to say that I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and I am very happy about that.
MUSIC: I have been approached by many musicians interested in writing songs for the film and since "MOM" has many elements from the 80's, it is a perfect film for songs that reflect that era. There are three songs in particular that have my interest. They are "Oh, Mindy" a song written by Aaron Williams, "(I Can't Get My) Mind Over Mindy" by John Ludwig and his songwriting partner, Gary Marthaler and a version of the Eurythmics' song "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)" sung by Heather Campione, produced by Aaron Morales.
THE ROUGH CUT: Hoping to watch the Director's "rough cut" of the film with the producers some time before the end of the year, time permitting. Soon thereafter, we will work on getting a locked picture to music composer, Tyrone Lancaster (Timeserver, Barrymore's Dream, You Don't Say!) who will be scoring the film. This will be our fourth film collaboration.
PERSONAL NOTE: "Mind Over Mindy" has become a work of passion and determination for me. Against all odds (and they have been greater than any odds before) I have pushed forward relentlessly to make this the BEST film of my career. I am hoping and praying it will all pay off. ~ Robert Alaniz
DIRECTOR'S UPDATE: Post production has begun. I am in the process of watching ALL the footage shot for "Mind Over Mindy". Checking shot continuity, the acting in the shots and how everything relates to the storyline. Sometimes a production gets so wrapped up in the technical aspects the story can suffer. It's important on set and in post to pay close attention to the characters and the storyline. Without these two important elements, all you have is a "good looking film" and nothing more. Still got a ways to go, but I am pleased to say that I like what I've seen so far. With the seasons about to change, I'm hoping there are no need for outdoor pick-up shots. ~ Robert Alaniz
Principal Photography has wrapped. The 23 day shoot was a hectic one that kept the cast and crew on their toes all the way to the end. Post Production is scheduled to begin in September. The cast features newcomer Catherine McCafferty in the role of "Mindy". Chicago actor Steve Parks plays the leading role of Tom Albert whose dream girl from the 80s (Mindy) materializes in the 21st century complicating an already troubled engagement to his fiancee Tina, played by Chicago actress, Ann Hagemann. The cast also includes Larry Thomas (the Soup Nazi from "SEINFELD") as Dr. Ivan Fischer, a therapist who may need some therapy of his own and Jim O'Heir (from "Parks and Recreation") as the obnoxious Mr. Wiener, the General Manager of the car dealership where Tom works. "Mind Over Mindy" has all the right ingrediants for a delightful, heart-felt comedy.
As the film production moves forward, filming is scheduled to begin in July, shooting the film entirely on location in Frankfort, Homer Glen, Mount Greenwood and Chicago. The cast includes Larry Thomas (the Soup Nazi from "SEINFELD") and Jim O'Heir (from "Parks and Recreation"), Steve Parks, Catherine McCafferty, and Ann Hagemann.
Sole Productions is in the process of producing a promotional short film for "Mind Over Mindy". The short, entitled "Mindy-gogo", stars actor, Larry Thomas & writer/assistant director, Robert Alaniz and was directed by Ashley Dallman. The short is a fun spoof, similar to previous teaser trailers in the past for the films "D.I.N.K.s (Double Income No Kids)" and "You Don't Say!" that also starred writer/director, Robert Alaniz.
Composer Tyrone Lancaster has agreed to score the video. Tyrone scored three of Sole Productions previous films "Timeserver", "Barrymore's Dream" and most recently "You Don't Say!". Everyone involved is looking forward to seeing (and hearing) the final product.
Writer/director, Robert Alaniz’s latest film "Mind Over Mindy" goes into production in 2014. This is Alaniz’s seventh feature film. After a successful switch to the comedy genre in 2010 with the film "D.I.N.K.s (Double Income No Kids)", and it’s follow up comedy "You Don’t Say!" (both films winning a total of five awards at film festivals so far), Alaniz has come up with yet another hysterical comedy with a message; this time addressing the issue of human regret and the effects of living in the past. It’s the story of a middle-aged man’s troubled relationship with his fiancée that becomes even more complex when his ex-girlfriend from the 80s, literally materializes from out of his dreams and into the 21st century.
Working with a bigger budget than previous films, Alaniz has so far casted two well known comedy actors from TV and film. TV icon, Larry Thomas (the “Soup Nazi” from Seinfeld) who had a smaller role in Alaniz’s last film You Don’t Say! and Jim O’Heir (from NBC’s Parks and Recreation). Click on the CAST link in the menu for more information. Alaniz hopes to include other well known actors to the cast as the production moves into the casting stage early next year. Auditions will be announced some time by the end of 2013.
Alaniz’s company, SOLE Productions, has been producing feature films in Chicago and the suburbs for over 10 years now.
